Which TB sub would you prefer?

I want to use one of the two little sub drivers that Tang Band has, but I don't know which looks better. They are the 8" and the 6x9 at Nuera-Acoustics. The 8" seems to respond a bit deeper, but That 6x9 yeilds some cool design opportunities.

Enyone have any experience with these?

RAW's site had a great article about the TB 8" and it's MCM counterpart. Basically, from reading it I can tell you that you'd going to need a passive radiator to get anything low out of it, but apparently with a radiator it'll work well for an 8" (the passive radiator threw me off).

The 8" driver featured on the Nuera site works quite well in a small closed enclosure, ~12 litres or so if i remember correctly, with some help. With a linkwitz correction circuit it has even better measured performance than the REL Quake woofer.

Sonicly the sound is good. Not "slow" to my ears. Bare in mind that i havent build ths woofer myself so i cant provide any construction hints.

Good luck. Regards // Mattias S

The W8-740C as well as the MCM 55-2421
MCM made this copy of the TB after Nuera had the W8 made.
Good idea but the compliance of the MCM just gets too loose after around 20hrs of use.
The suspension just drops in this driver.

The W8 stays put. After almost a year of going over this design Bob Wright and Bob Koonce contacted me and asked if I would do a artical with them and send them all my info to start on the 8" subs.
Well they went after MA drivers every 8" SUB they could get.
They settled with the TB after 2 months of looking and testing.
They have since made a folded ported cabinet for the TB.As Bob said this will be out in the following months of AAE.
Working with them I am getting all the info I have on them as well as the PR'S i have tested, weighted, methods ect.
Then supply them with my MLSSA measurments.

As it stands today I just finished weighting the single CSS PR to 200g for a lower tuning over the stock CSS PR.For those wanting a lower punch out of the 8" for HT use.But Audio use you will be happy with the stock PR and the higher tuning.
The AMP we used had a boost of 6db at 35 and worked out great for this little driver.
But ported get ready for some fancy bends I will tell you.24" long with flared ends to boot.

Have fun with the 8" sub
