got 2 bowls from ikea..one is 8" other one is 11" diameter...by metal halide bulb is 11" tip to tip...the dome part is bit more the 8"
what i want to know is what bowl would be better to use as a reflector..i know people have used these bowls for refectors with the EYE compact bulb...but i got the regular bigger 400W MH bulb from home depot...
here are 2 pics
thanks for any insight guys

here is the smaller 8" bowl...if i use this one my issue is that i got to make two cut-outs one on each side..making the bulb closer to the metal..will it get too hot?
im going to dremel out notchs in the one i decide to use...to recess the bulb in it..but what im wondering is if the small one will be too hot ....and will the large one focus light as well as the small?
Sorry I wish I could help you but I don't know much of light rays and how light travels. I will keep posting on this so it stays on top so you get your question answered soon, someone is bound to know.
try them both?
u seem to have both of them - give them a try an see which u think is brighter....

to get a true idea i got to dremel both of them...and they are my girlfiends...found them in the kitchen last night while making dinner...lol...so i dont want to ruin both and then have to replace them both...especially since the local ikea is out of stock of them for a while..and she uses them quite often....
i was hoping someone would have a better idea of which one is more appropriate ....

hrmm
Fair enough - know the feeling (please dear, can I drill holes in it?)
I would expect the smaller bowl would create a more tightly focused spread. Heat might be a problem though.

ya heat is my main worry too...but im thinking of sticking some heat sinks on the back of the bowl to help keep the temp down...i know of a local store that sells heatsinks of all shapes and sizes...will have to go check it out
