I am building a portable boombox running on a 12V 7Ah battery. I am powering two 5.25" Coaxial drivers. (93 db sensitivity).
Which amp should I use:
The Dayton DTA-2
The Lepai TA2020
or
The SURE TA2024
I am worried about the voltage requirements for the SURE TA2024. I heard it will perform better at 24V. I a using a 12V power source.
Thanks,
JV

I'm pretty sure that that voltage spec is wrong for the Sure amp. That chipset only takes about and just over 12V max, like the others.
I would get the 41Hz Amp6-BASIC preassembled. It is recommended by Saturnus in his very well respected and established Boominator design. It is a solid design built with very good parts. Very reliable and you don't get much better sounding implementations of the Tripath chip than this. This is a no brainer.

You prefer it to the mkII amp?
How much current does it draw? Is there a spec sheet?
I live in the USA. So the price and shipping is a bit high.
Maybe I can start a prototype with one of the aforementioned amps and then switch it to the amp6 in the future.
Thanks for your reply.

It is generally regarded as the most solid implementation of the ~12V Tripath amps. However, I don't have personal experience with any of the other ones.
The current draw is much the same as the other amps you listed; There is probably some info on it in the Boominator thread: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/class-d/104402-boominator-another-stab-ultimate-party-machine.html
At any rate, there is always the supreme rule: Build it wrong, but build it 🙂

(P.s.: This one by HelderHifi looks better IMO than the Sure / Lepai / Dayton: TA2020 MKIII :: . ... the components look to be beefier. I don't see the price, but it's probably cheaper than the Amp6.)
