Hey all,

Building some bookshelf speakers that will end up at 4 ohm, about 60w rms.
Used for music/movies etc.

Looking to build a nice kit amp to power them.

Done a bit of reading and get confused with all the class ab/d etc.

Can anyone recommend a great amp kit to suit my purpose?

Select an LM3886 based kit.
This can be well suited to 8ohms speakers and with care and selection of an appropriately low transformer voltage also suit 4ohms speakers.

But, here is my very personal opinion, all chipamps work better with higher load impedance.
If you still have a choice, build 8ohms speakers.

I have recommended a few times in the past of designing for ~ 40W into 4ohms instead of 68W into 8ohms, where 4ohms has become the target loading.
This lower power recommendation requires a smaller increase in output current than trying to mainatin >60W into 4ohms, which I consider overstresses the chipamp on high transients.

The alternative is to go discrete.
