For baffle step compensation you need 6dB.Yes, big cap, it says that in the picture.
These 2 solutions have completely different aims. Use an inductor and all of a sudden you have 6dB too much room response. Not the case for the series connection.
But usually neither is the goal, 2-3 dB of LF gain more useful.
When you want to use 3 speakers, just put two in series.
Although it won't give you much benefits because the one that is playing fullrange will reach its maximum before the other two.
For a 1.5 way system I would keep it simple with an inductor.
That way the speakers also won't interact with each other.
For baffle step compensation you need 6dB.
If you are outside. In real rooms you need less (2-3 dB), and one has keep in mind that every dB the on-axis response is raised one gets a 1 dB excess in the room response. A balance has to be made.
But it seems many like too much bass.

Bafflestep depends on the baffle.
Unless you talk about the back and side walls of the room.
But if you are that close, you have a whole bunch of other problems.

Room dominates. Any loudspeaker is a large set of compromises. Add a room and it gets much more complicated.
How many here actually have room to pull the loudspeaker out 2m into the room? In the real world you have to work with the room. Because we can is one of the things that makes diy special.
I have only ever needed explicit BSC compensation in one loudspeaker. And that one was really a midrange supression filter as it also effectively boosted the top. Got a lot better when i replaced the works with SEAS FA22eN
