I was poking around the other day and found this article-

wherein it is stated that the EL84 needs 300 to 400V on its plate and 16V of drive.
When I look up the tube data I find the recommendation of 250V on the plate and other sources indicated that 10V of drive voltage is what is required.
What am I missing?

Aha! I was looking at various data sheets for the EL84 but he does mention Russian so I should have been looking there.
