May seem like a dumb question but I don't even know what they're called. You know, those cylindrical shaped fans that are inside OHPs (my 3m anyways). Is there an online store that sells them?

Lifter:
They are called tangential or "squirrel cage" blowers. Try

Thanks for the response guys, but it's not a squirrel cage and it's not a tube axial fan.
I'm trying to find two pictures of it that I know are on here somewhere.
Zardoz has one on his system and has posted a pciture of it.
YWH has one on his as well. I found the picture for his, but the link is dead (it was the first time he posted his pics here).

Lifter,
I don't know how much air that you have to move to keep your system cool enough but Panasonic panaflow fans are quiet. You can get there largest fan and run it with a resistor to slow it down to maybe 1000 rpm. It will not be that loud at that speed.

I know, but it's the dimensions. The fan I'm talking about will cool a long, flat area. Regular fans blow in a limited path......
Aha, I found the picture. This is one of Zardoz's setup. Look at that thing attatched to his panel. That's the kind of fan I'm talking about.

BTW, the main reason why I want one of these fans is because with a regular fan, I can't really split the fresnel like what was just discovered. The fan is in the way so I can't put the upper fresnel above the LCD. Using one of these fans will allow that, not to mention improve the cooling:noise ratio.
Lifter those fans were commonly used in large office photo copiers ....I gutted a bunch awhile back they are quite useful....maybe try a office machine repair place or a used parts dealer

I got those little fans at "princess auto" they are 24 vdc but run VERY well at 12vdc. Whisper quiet and push a surprising amount of air. 8035421 is the princess auto part number. If I recall correctly they cost me $9.00 CDN each, I figured pretty cheap for an excellant cooling sollution.

Doesn't look like they have it anymore, but I did find out what they are called. It's called a "crossflow fan".
Thanks. I found a place that's pretty reasonable and the size is perfect. They're pretty common. The trick was finding out what they're called.
you can find them at surpluscenter.com (in nebraska) and they're called tangental fans, cause the air comes off of the blower wheel at a tangent.
hope this helps.

I bookmarked it at home, so I can repost it later if you like. Actually, there are a lot of places to find one. Once I knew what it was called, it's just a matter of typing in "crossflow blower" in Google. The majority are industry distributers, and they want you to call before giving you the price (and I'm sure many want a minimum order of 50 or whatever). But this isn't LCD controllers. Nobody should have trouble finding one of these things.
