I had a similar experience with an 18 Inch sub. But in my case it was a broken PCB pad ground connection from the DSP to the Plate Amp.

Not any more. All grown up now. My eldest when she was younger liked to copy her mums tidying up efforts by putting random stuff in the bin. That habit cost us a fortune

I really was worried for a time. I used my own builds for this which don't have full face grills, but I think they sound a little better when stood close by than the ones with the full face grills. Only because the grill covering the port is possibly restricting the flow making them sound a bit wooshy / windy when driven hard with deep bass notes.
I need to think of a solution to that. I prefer the sound uncovered but don't want them sucking stuff up or becoming homes to nesting rodents when they go into storage.
