Hey guys,
I'll be getting a couple of Panasonic WM-61A from Digikey so that I can build a mic/preamp setup for frequency response testing. I've seen a preamp from Eric Wallin's site here , but it seems a little too intricate.
Is there any basic, crude preamp I can build that will do the trick? I will be using Speaker Workshop for the readings.
Thanks,
CFC

this is another relativly low-cost approach:

See also Elliot Sound Products, (ESP) at http://sound.westhost.com for a simple 3 transistor mic amp- PCB available.

PCB based on Wallin v2 schematic is available.
Quick, easy and cheap. I've used it for a while and it does everything I need. One transistor circuit..........

Roger,
You're a gentleman and a scholar 😀
This is exactly what I've been looking for.
Thanks a bunch,
I'll give an update on my setup.

This is a bit worrisome: "Because of the simplicity of the design the distortion performance is not very good. At signal levels typically used by electret microphones the distortion is about 2-3%."
Here's an easy design with better performance:
