when I comes to noise isolation i prefer using R-cores rather going with Toroidals. I dont say toroidals are bad but for little difference Im paying for the R -cores. Regarding the shielding of the hum yes R-core has got its core exposed out hence might release intense 50hz hum compared to the toroidals. Anyway pros and cons for anything.
Yes, but they are not the norm on transformers on consumer equipment; and the off-the-sheld toroids from Avel, MD toroid, and Plitron do not include either the screen or the band.
Can you share the info on your custom toroid winder?
I use a small custom winding house in Taiwan where I am currently based.
When I was based in the UK I had my a Ovation 250 transformer custom wound. Cost me about $450 😱
But, it was specially wound for audio - screen, belly band and an oversized core. It's one of the quietest transformers I've come across.
more that most OEM off the shelf mains xfmr are using undersized cores, running too far into nonlinear B-H region already
Yes, that's why I have recommended a few times, to add a couple of dozen primary turns.
It does wonders for reducing wasted Primary current.

Andrew what is the combination for best performance as stated the points over previous replies..
1. Oversized core
2. Many number of turns in the primary as much as approx 50+
what else do you recommend...
