What's going on with LM3886 availability?

Interesting that none of the folks handling the finished wafers are wearing ESD smocks, wrist straps, or any other ESD control measure. I suppose they could be wearing heel straps, but I doubt it. That certainly wouldn't fly today. 🙂

Wouldn´t they be chained to the workbench?

Aaaaaand here's a newly uploaded film from 1983 on semiconductor manufacturing. I'm amazed at how many steps were done manually! At least wire bonding was machine-done. I recall some earlier video, 1970s or 1960s, showing women looking through microscopes doing wire-bonding manually through some movement reduction mechanism.
That looks like an early 'exploratory' devices fabrication lab for making small amount of newly designed chips for in house use, and not a mass production facility. 😀

Tom Christensen bought them from Mouser, not grey market.
I would expect consistent prices from Mouser, and speculative prices in grey market.

$10 is a more realistic price than $300.
It seems Aditya got them from Michael Chua at that price ($10, posted earlier).

What I did.
My Guitar amps are designed for live show use, so 60-100W , not smaller, because that´s what it takes to be comfortable besides a drummer.

But now after the Covid Dark Ages (literally) people got lazy, are not playing live very much ("nothing" compared to previous times) so lots of in-house rehearsals, garage playing, etc.
Or Church playing.

So decided to make 25-40-50W amps to fill the gaps; living expenses continue running, Covid or not. 🙁
........
TDA2050 and LM3886 to the rescue, right?
But none was to be found 🙁 🙁

So I designed a very simple 50W mini board, footprint similar to what an LM3886 takes, based on TIP121/126 .... cheap and plentiful, works like a charm.

Maybe they are not currently produced, since they are not "fashionable" or in high demand , but by the same token current stock will last for a long time.

Bud Rich was a great drummer - and I missed the Muppets not seen something since a long time 🙂

I'm told the various grey market vendors have bots/scripts that trigger when TI shows inventory. Then they buy up all the inventory automatically. If the choice is between paying $300+ to keep your business going or shutting down your business (even if just for a while) maybe $300/each isn't so bad. Sorcery is not my thing but I have a hard time not wishing ill on someone who charges $300 for a $6 IC. Just saying...
