The only concrete reason I have to buy something rather d/l etc it is higher quality. You wont get my dollars making shoddy and broken cds. A high definition format of quality material that isnt encumbered by drm however would be very attractive to me, be it optical disc or downloaded file.
Somehow the recording industry managed record profits on high sales and margins last year (in spite of...?) p2p and other copying. Cheap/free distribution threatens the middlemen and payola radio more than it does artists, and they want to do whatever they can to make themselves neccessary.
Even if your drm is invincible, at some point its going to become analogue to be output. Good luck with that worldwide ban on ADC.
