Any idea about a ballpark value of the amp?
Which end of the amp is the FRONT? The removeable card says to point it toward the front of the amp. 😕

I don't know exactly, but they are fairly valuable best to wait for one to go on epay or search ended listings. 'Front' have no idea, maybe where controls or writing is check that manual see if they say. Here is a similar 4ch that went for 300 320354201756 Zed made nice amps in case you did not know, much like PPI they made them for assorted amp companies. Most of those amps are from '90s into early '00s, I don't know exact years but matters little the USA amps were pretty good then.
What would be a good pair of used 15" subwoofers to buy and be powered by this amp? I don't do rap... mainly metal and rock.
I was into car stereo back in the mid 80's to early 90's. Then I got old 🙂 and sold everything. I'm still old 😀 but am looking to relive a bit of my youth by putting together a serious system in my subaru impreza. 😎
The last real subs I owned were 15" kicker solarbaics mounted face to face in box about 20" square with a 6" port and powered by a carver M240. I was impressed with it.
My last 3 way system was in my 1973 VW westfalia bus. It was a sony cdx-r88 head unit, a/d/s p80 powering boston acoustics model 641 & 651 mids, a/d/s p80 powering the 4 wedge shaped tweeters from the 651 & 641 component sets. A Harman Kardon ca260 drove a pair of boston acoustics 6x9 subs. A yamaha 3 way electronic crossover farmed out the frequencies to the right amps.
I want to put together a better sounding system than that.
Starting with this hifonics zeus amp and my JVC KD-SX990 head unit ...how 'bout you guys helping me design a high quality (but fairly low budget) 3 way component system? I'll be buying everything used on ebay or locally on craigslist. I'll probably make the sub box myself.

The Carver M240 isn't in the same league with a Zed amp of this size. It would be roughly equivalent to a 2x75W Zed model of similar vintage. IMHO, of course.
Cdx-r88... that would have been 1988 or so? And two P-80's... perhaps a little earlier than that. CA 260? Shoulda been on the 15's instead of the M240! Others may not agree, but that was one helluva bass amp IMHO.
I think the sony cdx-r88 was from 1985 or 86.

There was a CDX-R66 and CDX-R88. Same unit. The 66 was sold by Highland. Everyone else got the 88. Still have several of the 88's. The first Sony was the CDX-R7 and CDX-5 . (and the A-10 changer) The 7 had the tuner, the 5 did not... Have a few of the 5's and 7's. The one that replaced the CDX-R88 was the CDX-77 . Worst CD unit ever made. Drove us nuts trying to fix them. Fix one thing, then something else would go wrong. CDX-R88, the only thing that went out was a transistor in the brain. Happened frequently, but when they worked, they worked great...
Is that a hatch? You might want to think about one 15 or 18 to get it tuned lower, one better sub with some big xmax. If you ran a DVC 2+2 ohm you could push it pretty hard. Unless you don't need the room/etc.

I had the CD-only version of the CDXR-88. 77? 66?, I don't remember, but it was a factory refurb bought used in '89. Lasted about 6 months, and Sony said $75 flat rate to fix it. I declined and went back to using tapes.
Re: the X-5/X-R7... That does bring back memories from the other car audio dealer in town. His *best* customer bought the CD player (first on the market) AND A SUBWOOFER! This would have been late in 1984.
The sub was Pioneer, Sony or Kenwood 10" and mounted on a triangular baffle behind the seat of his pickup. There was NO ENCLOSURE behind the woofer, just a flat piece of wood with two sides. A pair of 6x9's in the doors would have made 10x the bass, but he was proud. We laughed him off the lot after asking how much he paid for it. A cruel and possesive crowd, car audio fans can be.

Very nice amp 🙂 . My first cd player was a new sony cdx5080. Actually looks similar to a couple of those. It was a pullout, lol. I have an old sony pullout sitting in my closet, it has issues.
