What would you do if you lived forever?

Even when terraforming is successful, there are many other obstacles that cannot be overcome, i.e. gravity difference, day / night time difference, seasonal change difference or lack of, radiation level difference...etc. When farming for food, the seeds we bring from earth will likely produce mutated crops and eating those may not be safe for us. It's basically a suicide mission.

There is a natural process in all living things.
Life has a limit.
Lin Yutang placed that limit - for Western man - at around 75 years.
He was a keen observer of the great asymmetries between Eastern and Western culture.
Anyway, a round number like a hundred - from an oriental point of view - would not displease me ........😀

I recommend "The importance of living", it helped me a lot in my youth.

That's a mix of one-sided assumptions and denying the excellent track record of technology to fix anything that crops up.

I'm in all the way!

So far the track record of technology to fix are limited to simple and little things in comparison to living safely on another planet. Traveling to such planet with all the necessary cargo is one huge challenge and even if that's accomplished, the rest of obstacles on the planet is not something humans can adapt to in our lifespan. If genetic engineering can "fix" things up for us to live comfortably on exoplanet, those won't be humans anymore.

You have an awful lot of faith in mankind. If we're so good at fixing things you must be confident we'll back off the current climate tipping point and "fix" the imminent disaster we're about to inflict on ourselves (not to mention population explosion)so we can stop thinking about escaping the planet? That way we can concentrate on raising the 'third world standard of living' the planet is capable of providing for a population of 9B just around the corner? By the time 15B comes around the "Matrix" is gonna be the only viable option. Except of course if we follow tradition, come to our senses and engage a holocaust true to form. No doubt the whole scenario is already in the works. 🙄

I'm just saying that technology will be able to fix it. Obviously, if humanity as a whole is too f***ing stupid to act or even denies there is a problem, it won't get fixed and we'll all be toast in due time.

And I have to admit that my trust in humanity is not as great as in technology.

Even if it goes titz up there’ll probably be pockets of survivor communities.
