What Would A NP Tape Preamp Look Like?

Just getting back to reel and reels but the electronics are shot.
What would a Nelson Pass circuit look like if he was to build a repo amp from scratch?

Would look like a 50 db gain phono preamp, but the RIAA would be changed to a NAB or IEC or other curve.

Will need to work out the IEC filter characteristics.
Seems a discrete opamp would work.

There are examples of tape preamps done with opamps.
Saw them via Google.

Tape preamp can probably be done with DSP too.

Problem with using opamps is they are too noisy.
The tape head in not unlike a MC cartridge.
I would expect a signal output of 0.4mV and impedance rising from 400 to over 15k ohms at high freqs.
So we can choice a pre preamp.
Should it be tube, BJT or FET?
