And to think, that sort of research could have been done in the USA if only Congress hadn't cancelled the Superconducting Supercollider. Maybe even coudda gone to 12.
Hi there: My take on future breakthrough is found in the last sentence of Gnobuddy's post where he states, "wired into the brain" or maybe not wired, but otherwise transmitted "DTBA" )direct to brain audio!)...regards Michael
maybe the brain is only like an IF stage in a radio?
maybe wiring/stimulation of the brain could be like tuning the IF circuit?
so what is needed is direct interface to consciousness.

direct interface to consciousness.
.. if only we had a clue what "consciousness" actually is...
i dont know, maybe test using Dr Hu's method. But it could be a disruptor , a mind 'poison' ?

I don't know. With so many species of plants in the Amazon and with so many permutations of mixing them, when they say the plant spirits told them how to make ayahuasca I want to believe there is something else to it.
Maybe it's nothing more than a coincidence and a cool story but if you have tried it you know that it does make one ask questions about one's existence. Same with other ceremonial "gateways" shamans use; e.g. Psilocybe cubensis, lophophora williamsii..........

Well, Apple Corp apparently intends to soon ditch the 3.5mm analogue audio (headphone) jack, for some unspecified digital interface. The new interface will be proprietary, no doubt, given Apple's long history of obnoxious hardware vendor lock-in.Pehaps the discussion should be what improvement can be made with present technology.
This is the kind of "improvement" we see all too often these days; replacing a very effective and functional technology with a new one that's more expensive, proprietary to one company, provides no benefits except to copyright lawyers, and represents a slap in the face to everyone else.
One ongoing change is the shrinkage in the physical sizes of loudspeaker drivers. Nowadays a 10 cm / 4" driver is considered huge, and expected to be a woofer, or "full range". Yet, a 70 Hz sound has a wavelength of 5 metres; fifty times bigger than the diameter of that 4-inch "woofer"! (Let's not even mention audio frequencies below 70 Hz, where so much of the "meat" of bass guitars and kick drums lie.)Lets not forget its all about commercial these days. We all are in the minority group. Whatever so call break through that might take place will just trickle down to us
Most of us here will know the significance of that last ratio, i.e a wavelength fifty times bigger than the driver diameter: small drivers and long sound wavelengths are good for wide sound dispersion, but very bad for efficiency and maximum SPL capability.
The thought has crossed my mind many times in recent years, walking past a laptop or tablet shrieking out thin, bassless, distorted audio, that we (consumers in general) are now willing to accept audio quality so lousy that the public would have rejected it in 1950.

That's radio right? I used to LOVE the radio. Good enough and cheap enough to tell which CDs were going to have nice production. Long live the CD!
Before the CDR came along (a breakthrough for me in ~1996 when a CDR blank dropped below $1), the previous breakthrough in audio was the hi-fi VCR which had almost CD specs without even trying.

Most Extreme Speaker Ever Made - Devialet Phantom Gold - 4500 Watts of power, can deliver 108dB SPL.

Well to go to the 1st page to the q of this thread I would say so simply: 1. Wireless speakers with Tesla wireless electricity, 2. Directed Sound: Those '' Wall Paintings'' lookalike speakers that use the same technology that the Army uses for intruder repellent, you can't hear a sound only when facing them. They look flat as well as a painting canvas. 3. Big sound in a small box: Brand name Mission Speakers. 4. I heard about some work in progress over media stations.
Well, some people don't agree. Out of several claims here, one is that it's an attempt to finally "plug the analog hole" and have DRM on everything:No 3.5 mm headphone jack, then it must be bluetooth, and there is nothing wrong with that
Taking the headphone jack off phones is user-hostile and stupid | The Verge
The small jack has always seemed dodgy to me. Even the "standard" itself is questionable - is it 1/8" as I heard years and decades ago (and supposedly half the diameter of the standard 1/4" phone plug), or is it 3.5mm? I think both of these nearly-identical-but-not-exactly sizes have been manufactured.
Most of the audio developments were made by the good scientists at Bell Laboratories. They were always looking for ways to improve the capabilities and capacity of the telephone system. They invented negative feedback to reduce distortion in the long lines where many amplifiers are cascaded to overcome signal losses in the cables. They invented digital audio, compression, filters, vocoders, transistors, and nearly every other audio technology. Hollywood spawned much innovation in public address and sound for movies. These were all commercial endeavors. I believe that a lot of things have been created by DIYers, and never saw the light of day. Standards require a large commitment.
Somebody once experimented with speakers that are of a material that contracts and expand dependend on the voltage frequency going through.
Read about this in the eighties and remember, cause of some odd physical effect the frequency going throuh those speakers had to be doubled...

How do these companies even reach these kind of figures? Do they mean 4500 watts power handling or 4500 watts output from the Class A / D hybrid amp ? Either way it's pure BS i personally get a kick out of telling visting friends, who boast about owning 1000 w amps and 3000 w speakers, that are blown away by the sound from my set up that the amp pushes 19 watts and the speaker's are rated at 20 watts max. 🙂
Yeah, that's more power than you can get out of the standard USA 120V 30A circuit. And it says it's wireless - does it run on batteries?
I'm sure the claim also goes against the original FTC guidelines for audio power amplifier ratings in those infamous "watts RMS."

Opps think i upset someone in the dedicated thread on those speakers. * note to self .. you can't reason with a fanboy . 🙂

Probably sucks free zero point energy out of the universe... 😀
