- used lacquer thinner liberally at first then Permatex gasket sealant thinned with more lacquer thinner - hope it doesn't harden again - lol
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Yeah, from dim memory, Fs is down where it needs to be, though Qts still seems a little high.
Typical 'cheap' lacquer thinner evaporates quickly in a humid environment like where me and Freddy live, so if it's going to harden much it will happen pretty quickly. They [still?] make a slowly evaporating spray paint grade, though probably only available through DuPont or other automotive coating suppliers $$$$.
This is the 'beauty' of mineral based brake fluid, it's stable over a much wider range of heat/humidity than a driver can likely survive.

don't know if it'll stay but fs went from ~102Hz to ~58Hz and qts from ~1.51 to 0.89
Nice work - looks like you solved it. That permatex compound stays soft so should work for a while.
The cloth surrounds on my PA130-8's have a glossy black (looks like it is still wet) coating of some compound on them. I wonder if it is similar but feels tacky like gasket sealing rubber compound.
'movin' on up"😀 - with no play its crept up to qt~0.95 and fs ~63Hz - will check it again - hope it doesn't fully lock as before
I wonder if mostly what had hardened in the old surrounds was the original doping material. Now it is alloyed with Permatex. Probably won't harden again soon, but time will tell.
Anyone know what sort of rubber that Permatex gasket seal stuff is made of? They say "synthetic rubber". Not too helpful. The thick stuff is just silicone.

I'd expect it to go back up a little as the stuff cures. Those are still decent specs for a TL type loading.

Looks like the rubber portion is nitrile.

- what will soften a hard paper surround?
