I intend to use RS232 connection as isolated USB is extremely expensive. Besides, pulse transformers for USB simply aren't avaliable where I live so chances are others would have problems purchasing those same parts when building their incarnation of this tester.
Normal serial connection will allow the use of USB-to-RS232 adapters ($2 or so on eBay, shipped) with their higher transfer speed, yet still keep the communication portion of the PCB isolated from the rest of the circuit.
Have you guys seen this project yet?
