Somebody in Melbourne is downsizing and I've just agreed to buy a lightly used Shiva from them.
Comes in a box but I think that the supplied box might not be the best
So what's a reasonable compromise sealed box for a 12" Shiva driver and how does any of the current Dayton subs compare?
Haven't picked it up yet so I don't know which version it is.
But I think I can afford to take the chance at $50-

Are you referring to a old Adire Shiva?
Dunno about sealed, but I have a MkII version in a 100lt ported enclosure tuned to from memory too mid twenties, been thumping and rattling windows for 20+ years with no subsonic HP on a old Jaycar 300w plate amp!
Use to be really good in my old small lounge room, but struggles in the current room(8mx12mx2.7H)... time for an upgrade soon

Don't know if it's a Mk1 or 2 or 3 or whatever but My youngest lives in Melbourne so I can drop in and see her on the way home and try and avoid the afternoon traffic on the freeway
Reading the Shiva "White paper" now, just thinking of adding a third sub to the HT set-up if I can find some space, so smaller is better where WAF is concerned
I now need to justify my purchase with "The Boss" so which of the current Dayton subwoofers comes closest to the original Shiva 12"?
Well It is a Mk 3 and I maybe bought a dud but the box is worth what I paid, 25mm HDF and I can barely lift it.
It came with the power amplifier not working and I have no idea if the amp is worth working on [ definitely not my skill set] but it has a couple of ELNA 8000uF smoothing caps and what looks like a 300VA toroid.

Obligatory photos of the box and the Silicon Chip amplifier
Driver is not a dud and works fine even tho it has some silicone on a crack in the surround and it has been modpodged.
I had to pay $60- as I misread the original add

Just add another sub or two ?Are you referring to a old Adire Shiva?

This box turns out to be 54 litres once I add in the volume of the plate amp section, and some acoustic fibreglass should give me a 10% apparent increase in volume. Just trying to decide on connections and wondering if I should wait and get a Speakon socket as well as using banana terminals.
I'll probably get a Yamaha PX3 to drive it in the short term or maybe the PX5.
It isn't pretty but I'm more interested in performance in what is, after all, just a $60 box and driver.
When I turn the box over after the glue dries I'll add more FG to the inside of the box, the yellow Acoustic stuff I couldn't get a 2-pole Speakon socket so I've just gone with the banana sockets, I may add a little anti-short block between them tho
