3-way
It's the best woofer you can get for a 3-way, right?
And can always be bought at a reasonable price
No problem finding replacements
It's been refined over decades, very reliable and long lasting

Seriously, they are a great 15" woofer with an f3 of 30hz in a 5 cu ft cab. What you put above those are too numerous to mention. Great drive what ever you do with it.

What do you guys make of the findings here? Maybe the competition has finally caught up or even surpassed the mighty 2226?

Build yourself a pair of JBL 4530 Scoops! if you have the space?. Use them as ultimate party speakers!. Been there-done that!.
I'm thinking to try something FAST.
Ha! I'm learning quickly that Fast is too furious. 😀

Can't believe I just wasted 1 min reading a few sentences of that.
I go JBL 2226 and forget the rest.
Price (on ebay or similar), reliability, perfected over decades.
I've read what JBL engineers have written.
They make sense.
99% of what you read doesn't.
You can read ferrite vs neo magnet take (some JBL guy).
Neo is a 2l turbo and ferrite is V-12 or straight 6.
It's like foam surrounds.
Yeah, they might have been and still might be superior to synthetic rubber for 10-15 years, but then what?
Ive got 4 of them in Tham 15s and they sound very nice. I did model them first and they looked like nice . Greg
I just changed the surround of 4 2226H to the foam variant (2235) to lower the fs.
And to get even more infra bass I tweaked the spider, with a scalpel surgical knife, by cutting out 8 triangulare shape pieces.
Resulting in fs 17 to 18 Hz.
Then i put all 4 of them in the wall, with my 18cubic meter (18 000 litre) garage as an enclosure.
I´m letting them play between 15Hz to 28Hz.
The alternative i had was to add mass... but making the suspension smoother gives me much higher sensitivity, and higher power handling.
