My mate's brother gave me an Eminence Beta 8,it works fine, but i wondered why he only had the one, unless he stole it,be i doubt it.There must be some reason he just gave it to me,probably as it was only one speaker.Shame it wasn't a bigger driver, otherwise i could have used it as a subwoofer.
Eminence Beta 8
150w rms [old version] With Genuine Eminence sticker
8 ohm
55hz-4khz
38 oz magnet
average sensitivity 1w at 1m 97 db
2 inch voice coil
X max 3mm
X mech 26mm
kapton coil former
polyamide-imide coated copper voice coil
aps ferrite magnet
pressed steel chassis
paper cone
plasticised cloth[linen] cone edge
solid composition dust dome
resonance freq 58hz
I haven't got many uses or projects for only one small speaker, maybe use it as in a guitar/bass amp or use it for a centre speaker in a surround system.Or just sell it.
I don't know if it's worth buying a second one, because i don't know this this speaker my mate's brother gave me is 100 per cent okay,it might buzz at high volume?
Seems fine when driven with a 150w rms poweramp at low medium and loudish volumes. But I don't know if it will handle high volume levels?

hey,
id either use it as a guitar speaker (most likely), or else id calculate a good sealed box to put it in and make it my test loudspeaker. since it was free it wouldnt be too big of a deal if you killed it with a new amp with a few bugs. good luck.

You can get decent bass from this driver is you design a proper box and use active filtering. If you buy a second driver, there is a big chance that it will not match to your current one.
Classy as always Steve! What can you do with only one 8"? Make a lot of women really happy.
I wonder though, is 8" a proper size for a Bull?🙂 🙂

George
Often wondered which is better......
an 8" or a pair of 6.5's???
maybe someone can ask someone they know??
But seriously, don't underestimate what the Eminence beta 8 can do. It will not go real low, but it can have a lot of punch in a reflex cab.
Yep, if you can get it away from the screen , would be a good computer sub, and you certainly work well in a guitar practice box of some sort.
If you are into amps at all maybe you could experiment making something like that with amp included, there's lots of simple kits for reverbs, wows, etc you could play with too.
Have fun !

I could build a simple open back guitar amp,and use a valve head such as the Velleman kit rated 50w rms.
Or because I do already have a passive guitar amp with a Celestion Rocket 12 inch[with paper edge] 60w rms in it,and the guitar amp cost me ,not much at all;£15 second hand.
So can I add the Eminence Beta 8 in Series with the Celestion Rocket 12inch?
I guess this would make a good combo cabinet,8 inch for slap and attack,12 inch for warmth and depth.
OR
If I can manage to shield the magnet somehow, then maybe I could use the Eminence Beta 8 with two Audax dome tweeters and use it for home cinema as a centre speaker.
No point using it as a computer subwoofer, because it does not go low enough, the miniture subwoofer amplifier is hard to build, and i've got a computer sub already.[Creative Inspire 6.1 6700 speakers. 5 satellites and 1 active sub].
I think i'll use it with my Celestion Rocket 12,60w rms, alnico magnet, vintage bright sound, paper cone edge.
I just hope it won't sound weird, adding a pa bass/mid in series to a guitar speaker.
