i need to build a hi-fi sub,

any recommendations on drivers or enclosure types, gimme some ideas, what has worked for you guys the best in the past, anyone know anything about TML's, just looking for some insight before i start choosing drivers and cab plans. let me know what has worked well, post some of your plans or pics if anyone has any. and back to the question 1 15", or 4 8's. id like to stick with 8's or 10's. a bunch of little driver or one or 2 big ones, common lets get a good argument going.

Koda8 from adire isnt too bad for an 8". It has respectable excursion and power handling, but is a bit pricey at ~$80 apeice.

Why do you want to do 4 8" speakers instead of maybe two twelves, two fifteens or something like that.

The info you have given isnt very helpfull in determining what would be suitable for this project.

When you're first starting a subwoofer project you must answer a few basic questions.

What is the budget? How much do you want to spend and what parts should the budget include?

What are physical constraints? How big of an enclosure are you allowed, what size room, where can you put it etc.....

What system will the sub be used as part of? Not only should the sub be able to match in output SPL, but the crossover frequency will be determined by how low your mains can go unstressed, and the subwoofer's placement.

And the final question, how low should you go? What frequency cutoff is in your good taste? Some people dont mind rolloff at even 40hz, some(like me) prefer their bass to go down to the infrasonics. This question isnt by itself either... the lower the frequency you wish to reproduce, typically the higher cost, driver size, and enclosure size. So this question should be asked last.

Only with these questions answered will anyone be able to help you create something GOOD.

i've always kinda felt that if you have the space, get a bigger driver. An 8 simply cannot hit as low as a 15, or maybe an 18.... if I were to go out and buy a HT sub, it would definately be the Ascendant Audio Atlas 18"
I think you might mean Avalanche 18" Atlas goes up to 15"
