My two favourites at the moment are Van Damme professional loudspeaker cable.
The size i choose was 4mm 56[4mm sq]
PVC insulation
anti-kink pvc/neoprene composite
4.3 ohms per km
temp range -30 to +130 o C
2 core
OFC copper
40 amp continuous
This cable is an all round excellent cable, tight bass, clear and clean midrange, sparkling cyrstal clear highs.
The other one I bought was the SHARK high capacity silver plated,
OFC wire. With an amazing 1,050 strand wires,30 amp continuous,
This cable had good solid bass, transparent midrange, and the most amazingly detailed treble. The only downside of this cable was it lacked the abilty to carry deep bass signals.
The Van Damme was £3 per meter, but the Shark was a pricy £9 per meter.
Both cables make a hell of a difference compaired with normal 76 stand OFC.

The shark sounds better because it's more expensive. I guarantee it.

I use 12guage alphacore inductor copper foil. I attached it to either side of 2" wide double sided sticky tape, then put it into plastic braid. Terminated it with 2" of CARDAS I had lying around. Total cost for 4-8 foot cables was about $30. It sounds great!
Well actually, I have to say for the bass, the 6 guage booster cable wire I had been trying, worked possibly as well. It is really a toss up, and considering the resistance of the coils in the cross-over........... However, the highs very actually quite good and as good as other mid-level ($100's) I have used.

what "household" wire would be best? eg. solid core figure 8 "bell" wire, coaxial cable, mains cable.
