Hello,
I recently purchased a german stereo Telefunken tube radio from 1959 and I would like to ad some speakers to it. In the manual it is specified that the impedance of the speakers sould be 5 ohm, but I wouldn't want to go on another quest right now to find these unicorns..... As I've read until now a 6 ohm pair would be the colsest match, but I don't have those either. I have plenty of 4 & 8 ohm speakers and I would like to know which one can I use. From what I've read the 4 ohm ones are recommaded only if I want to blow up the tubes/output transformator and the 8 ohm's will sound weak and distorted. Did I understood corectly? Is there another solution to my problem or I should start looking for a 6 ohm speaker set?
Thank you,
Angel H.

Try the 8 ohm speakers. Remember, that number is nominal and dips are to be expected.
Distortion will not be a problem. Slightly reduced power O/P is what you'll encounter.

Hi,
4 ohm should be fine and a little better than 8 ohm which would be fine.
Unless you plan on running it as loud as possible, its simply not an issue.
rgds, sreten.

Thank you for your replies. I will try them both, since isn't a really big problem. I was thinking more on the long term since this unit is in a nice technical shape with all original tubes and fully functioning, but not as much on the esthetic side.. FWIW is a Telefunken Sonata Stereo 2082 console. It comes with a permanent built in speaker and another permanent one but which can be disconected. Since it has two speakers outputs left and right I was thinking to disconect the built in speakers and use two normal speakers on it. Do you think it's doable?
