What Should I Look for When Hiring a Video Production Company?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to hire a video production company to create a short promotional video for my small business.

There are so many options out there, and I’m unsure what to look for in terms of quality, pricing, and reliability.

Should I prioritize companies with big portfolios or go for smaller, more affordable teams?

Are there red flags to watch out for when reviewing past work or client testimonials?

Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated

especially if you’ve been through this process before.

The business i work for UK/USA based has in house video production in the UK and we hire in for the USA. I'm involved in the content creation, scripting and storyboarding of these and have worked with various video production companies in a 25 year sales and marketing career, tech, sporting goods and power tools.

1. Define the project, budget, timeline, content inputs, talent and outputs, file formats, media etc. Write a creative brief and contractual expectations.

2. Get agencies to pitch for the brief. Meet a couple face to face and choose the best fit.

If you can tell us more about the specifics I can be more specific in return. Likewise having a complete brief will help them price the job.

I've had great work done by two guy teams before, and also multi team agencies. It all depends.

But remember, you're paying for the result, not how long it takes them to do it.
