What mid should i get??

So far i've done TONS of reading and research and think i've finally chosen my tweeter and woofers. For the tweeter i would like to get the Peerless HDS (810921) and the Peerless HDS Exclusive 6.5" woofers (830883). I want them to be a floorstanding speaker with the mid at the top, then tweeter, then the two 6.5" woofers. What mid would you suggest? I would like to stick with all Peerless but they only have one mid to choose from (821615), which doesn't seem like anything to brag about.
Ive read up on Vifa, and have looked at the D75MX4108 (from the regular line) and the PL11MG0908 (from the "premium" line, which i'm assuming is the Peerless V-line?). What can you suggest?
Thanks!

with a tweeter like the hds, and a 6.5 Woof, i really really don't see the usefullness of using a mid-driver, even distortion wise, the extra sd of bigger driver gets you lower distortion.

my serious advice : get a second peerless exclusive woofer and do a 2.5 way : neater crossover, decreased imd , i don't see the directivity as an issue as with the hds tweet you certainly can cross low enough, but, if directivity is an issue, then waveguide your tweet, then you have a perfect system.

but if you want a mid driver , look at either the dayton RS-52 if you want a dome, or one of the smaller exclusive ( 5 or 4) if you want a cone, it will match your drivers pretty well i think.

really don't see the interrest of using a vifa poly driver, it has higher distortion, sloppy cone, why going with theses neat low distortion high stiffness hds exclusive if it is to use them in the range in wich theses advantages are the less usefull, the bass ??

As said, doing a 3-way is very tricky, but if you insist I would look at a Tangband mid, W4-1129C - it has very wide FR and could make it a lot easier

But I think woofers with phase plugs looks a bit strange - 2 x 8" Tangband, W8-750A might work nice in closed box

I think i'm going to get the crossover built for me so i don't think that's an issue.
So from what i've gathered the Vifa mids aren't very good. I want to get all my components from Solen and they don't seem to carry Dayton. What about anyting from Seas, or Visaton? or Morel? would mids from these companies match the Peerless HDS series?

Again I'll ask: what's wrong with the 5.25" 830882? Your getting Exclusive woofers so why not use the smaller Exclusive for mid?

Edit: reread your first post. Peerless has every size from 4"-10" in the Exclusive series. So I'm not sure what you mean by them only having that one mid 821615...

Edit again: I guess it's a 5.75" mid
http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=9118739.11625&pid=1948 Solen carries them too

I've just finished Dave Ellis' 1801 speakers, with the Seas W18E001 woofer/mid and Hiquphon OW1. I've only been listening for a few hours, but they are a sweet combo. I think using these as your mid & tweet and then adding a suitable 10/12" (Scanspeak/Flexunit?), would be extraordinary.....

Also the mid/tweet layout is influenced by the polar response. It wouldn't be good if these are 40" tall with a -20 degree vertical polar response because of the layout. Of course that all depends on the XO. You could work something out to keep the layout you want and the polar response pointing at the seating position, but it is still something to be aware of.

The Peerless HDS Nomex 4" (830872) is designed as a midrange with a little bit lower excursion to optimize distortion (or something). Could be a good mid especially if you have a Peerless woofer.

If you are using the 6.5" only for the bass I think the non exclusive could be as good or maybe better. Zaphs measurements on the HDS 5.5" gives lower LF dist for the Nomex (830873) compared to excl (830882).

2x6.5" sounds fun too......or 2x6.5" + 4" + 1" (Sorry for messing upp your design🙂

Poorsound, you mentioned Morel yourself

You want double 6" woofers
they could manage higher cross point
this would be perfect fore a Morel 2" mid dome
which again could lead to a better and higher cross point for the HDS tweeter
