There is something wrong with an amplifiers psu if you can hear the effect of fuses.
What can be wrong with 2x 300VA transformers, fast scottky rectifiers and 10.000 uf (BHC) capacity pro rail?
Reducing the impedance of the main supply will increase (slightly) the peak charging pulses into the reservoir caps. This should not be audible, but poor grounding or wire routing could let it through. Low PSRR would too. The resultant spurious signal might be misinterpreted as an improvement, especially by the person who brought it about.
I have Self, JLH, Cordell, Horowitz & ARRL and numerous smaller books and downloads (Jung & Pass).
I found the Self and JLH pair complement each other by looking at the design problem from opposite ends.
Cordell is super, it tries to fill in the middle ground, aiming for both technical performance and SQ.
Horowitz and ARRL are good reference books, but neither make a good read nor do they give a general grounding on amplifier design.
The least useful in my insignificant opinion is Horowitz. It does not even have Schmitt trigger in the index. It does show an opamp Schmitt trigger. There are many other examples of Horowitz lack of reference capability.
For those who want to see a good explanation of Schmitt trigger see this excellent educational site:
Schmitt Trigger
There are many other sites that fill the gaps the books leave.
I recommend Self + Cordell + JLH in that order.
