What LCD panel would be bestto use with the xbox360?
I was wondering... if I want a panel only for xbox and xbox360 (non-hd, only need 640x480 res), what do you guys recommend? Thanks!

why would you want a non-HD panel? the whole reason to get an xbox360 is because all games are in HD. at least get a 1024x768 panel.
I do not have the money to do that. My friend plays his 360 on a standard 28" TV and it looks fine. I want to get that just a lot bigger.

bigger must be better right?
i just cant believe you guys are taking 200-400 pixels and blowing them up to that size.
Hmmm...Well I just got my Dell 1702FP last night on ebay for 145 shipped, I'd say if you were going to do it I'd build an HD Setup,
1280x1024 (720p Capable)
16 MS Responce Time
almost 900:1 Contrast
DVI and VGA Input.
You'd get alot better of an image off a monitor like that, you'd be way more satisfied, the setup i'm building currently is pretty much strictly for gamming, xbox 360 style 🙂
IF you were to do the 640x480 way, you could probably go with an Overhead projector, and MOD it with the light mod to make it cleaner with much longer life.

Why do i need to mod the OHP? I can just get a super high lumen projector. But anyways, can you direct me to the place that can show me how to mod the projector (and why)? Thanks.
My reasoning for a 640x480 is..
1. Limited money (100-150$ for OHP and panel)
2. don't want to have to rip apart an LCD, knowing me, im clumsy, I'd break it.
I was wondering... would non hd xbox etc fill up the entire 640480 screen or just a part of it? (should I get a psx lcd if my only plan is to play video games because its resolution is closer to that of a standard tv?) It is cheap enough that I am comfortable taking it apart.)

woah! what do you guys think about this?

It looks AWESOME. Widescreen, plays video games obviously... not expensive either!

Let's see, looks like it might be a nice screen, but nowhere does it give resolution or anything, and for all you know, it may have a really bad resolution, or may not be strippable.
I know you're hesitant to do this, but I'd just pay $20 more to get a nice 17", HD-capable 1280*1024 monitor. It'd make all the difference, and that way you COULD play in HD.
If you'll consider this, look on eBay for "auction-partner". They've got a ton of nice 17" monitors for cheap prices. I got the same monitor ChristmasGT got (and am incredibly happy with it) for $100 plus $30 shipping. Once again, that's less than $20 more than the incredibly inferior Playstation monitor.
Just one thing, make sure that when you buy your monitor, they tell you in the description that it works, has no(or few) dead pixels, and doesn't have any smudges or blotches or pressure points on the screen (mine's dead perfect, just had a crack on the outer plastic on top of the monitor, and in no way hurts the picture). It shouldn't be very hard to find a monitor like that, and if you want, I could even try looking on eBay for one for you.
No offense, but buying that screen you're considering instead of a slightly more expensive, but vastly nicer, HD-capable monitor seems to me like buying a $400 27" standard definition television instead of buying a $450 HD kind. It's just not right. LOL

The lowest I could find that monitor was for $160.... Thats like my overall maximum budget so that cant really happen..
From what i've read ripping apart an LCD isn't too bad, if you stick with one especially that has alot of guides for it (Dell 1702FP) theres alot of plus's for it just search Dell 1702FP
I dont think that LCD panels below 20ms would be too good for gamming, you'd get alot of "ghosting" I have 16ms on my monitor that i use for FPS's and such and they work great.
You would get much much more out of your setup by saving and doing a 17" or so route

you know, I do not want to use my computer for this and I do not need HD. All I would like is a good refresh rate and good amount of colors (at least 16.7m) This is my first real DIY projector (not couning that fresnel crap rofl)
I dont care if the pixels are too big. I want the same resolution as a normal TV or w/e so when i'm playing tv the WHOLE SCREEN will be used, not just a small portion. So is my best bet a PSX screen or a 640480? Or something else sub 60$?

just buy my 15" lcd. it is 1024x768 native and has 12ms response time.

If you really don't care about HD or big, blocky pixels, and you won't EVER be using it for the computer, then I guess a monitor probably isn't your best bet, being that most monitors, include our 17" Dells, don't have any coaxial or svideo inputs, whereas your PSX screens and whatnot do (I'll be using my HTPC inputs and a VDIGI box for videogame inputs to my monitor, which cost a bit more, too).
When it comes to a cheap PSX screen or whatnot, it seems like a popular choice. If you can get it for cheap, go for it, I guess. I've heard that ToysR'Us used to be selling them for as low as $20 to get rid of their stock. Don't know if that's still true, but try going to a videogamexchange or something like it to see if they have any used ones. I don't think you should pay more than $60 for it (just like you said).
One question I'll pose to you all is this: is the PSX screen 640*480, or is it 320*480? I've heard both, and I've also heard that you can hook it up to a computer to get 640*480 (albeit interlaced).
CHRISTMASGT: Other than Superdaveumo's guide, where else have you found a guide for stripping a 1702fp? I might wanna look another one over, I got a little confused when he said to be careful while taking out the backlight, some board? fall down and crack your screen. Kinda scared me.

If I end up getting a 640480 res, will a video game take up only part of the screen (tv res is lower than 640480?) My current projector (which recently broke) was 800x600 and only used part of the screen when playing video games.
Thanks for the help everyone!

Should fill the whole screen unless it is a 16:9 feed, but if it is 4:3 then in theory it should fill the whole thing.
