Hi there I'm looking at some Onken speaker plans that call for 3/16" through holes in a number of places. I'm not totally clear what type of hardware these are assuming, as I'd been just planning to use deck/wood screws on the build. Would this likely be for a t nut and 3/16 machined bolt? If so, do I need to worry about how to make those air-tight? Thanks for any tips, first time cabinet builder here.
Are these 3/16" thru holes for mounting the drivers? Kinda sounds like it.
I'd go with #8-32 machine screws into a threaded inserts if that's the case. Wood screws are also an option, just make sure there's enough material thickness for them.
Really a lot of unknowns here. Guessing at this point is a bad idea.

They're for some of the cabinet fastening points as well -- eg side panels to interior braces, faces to sides, etc..why I'm a little confused.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Here's what I recommend for mounting drivers to a panel...Hurricane nut
They don't have the piercing spikes that can have issues with certain materials like tee nuts do sometimes, and they hold just as well or better.
For a 3/16" hole you can use up to a #12 screw...I suggest using a #10 screw with a flat washer just to be sure tolerance variations don't cause trouble.
OK...I responded before I saw what you want to do....
The only good "fastener" for assembling speaker boxes is good old wood glue, screws and bolts won't work well for that purpose.

Well, I think most would use glue and clamps, but I'm no cabinetry expert, that's for sure. They're for some of the cabinet fastening points as well -- eg side panels to interior braces, faces to sides, etc..why I'm a little confused.
Why not post up the plans, or a link.
