What is wrong with this picture?

I want to buy this TV from somebody if it's something I know I can fix. I have medium electronics knowledge, and I have heard that usually problems with rear projectors are pretty easy to fix. Does anybody recognize what's happening on this big screen and what will it take to fix it?

(This is my first time posting a picture on this site so I hope it works.)

does it do that when u use the the tuner?
That's the most relevant question.
If it doesn't, then I would say that it has to do with the the grounding of the shielding of the video cable between the DVD player and the TV. It must get to ground at both ends.
However, if it does turn out to be a TV fault, it should be a straightforward fix for a compitent repair-man.

:cop:Please note that we do not accept posts discussing repairs to the internals of TV's. They pose particular problems in regard to safety.:cop:

My stepfather's bigscreen did that, at first, adjusting the convergence cleared it up, but after about a month, it needed to be converged everytime it was turned on. We got it repaired, but the repairmen didn't know what they were doing and screwed it up so that it was too bright and started burning the Fox logo into the corner of the screen. We eventually put the TV in the basement and got an HDTV to replace it.

Try converging it and replacing the cables, I see lots of ghosting in the picture.

I've got an idea

I would want to see a test pattern or something that uses more colors so that we can see more clearly whether this is happening to each CRT or all of them equally. I agree that it could be a video cable problem (ground problem), but I also know that our Sony DBR CRT rear projection TV has 6 analog adjuster knobs inside the TV, accessible by removing the front speaker grille and also removing that same lower panel between the speakers. Those controls seem to control CRT focus per CRT as well as CRT sync. Playing with those controls often fixes problems like your TV has, which are sometimes caused by moving the TV and droping it just enough to bump the CRTs. Hopefully that does the trick!
