What is wrong with op-amps?

Rumours has it that the German originals were good up to 1GHz and SSB radios were used to encode additional covert channels on the tapes.

Unfortunately those in charge with reverse engineering them lacked both hearing finesse and appropriate oscilloscopes, so they never figured it out.

Moreover, some idiots used Cedar to remaster exactly the collection of tapes that contained the directions to the hidden treasures of the Third Reich.

Very cool! When you think about it, it's amazing that sound can be recorded and amplified at playback without electronics and be able to heard at a decent level.

You can hear it with a sewing needle bonded to a sheet of paper with duct tape.
But you still need a turntable. Do that at home, but not with your favourite record. 🙂

My first record player was 100% acoustic. Wind up 78 with governor and a pile of styli to choose from.

When I was a kid I broke apart at least 3 Pathefones, it was such a portable Soviet gramophone.

Scott and morinix, I am well aware of German tape recording and the Americans reverse engineering the Magnetophon after WW2. (wasn't Ampex originally a machine tool manufacture company?)

I was merely clarifying for Bill that in the UK, neither HMV or Decca used tape until 1950. I think that in the USA, both RCA and Columbia may have used it a little earlier (48?).

Wait until you hear how they "invented" the AC bias.... they never understood the role of a wideband RF preamp in the original machine.... but they went ahead to replicate it anyway.... their version oscillated.... and here we come, patent for AC bias, yay!

For those who want to downplay the EE way of thinking, (part of it especially for K)

I know, happened to me too. When all you have is a meter, you'll try to indiscriminately measure everything. You should have seen me when I got my first oscilloscope.

Tomatoes though, I never reached that stage where you measure their electrical properties. I was never sure how to correlate them with this subjective thing "taste".
