The top one is a preamp/tuner? The three round pots at the bottom left for are for Volume, Balance and Tone?

Somebody mentioned selenium rectifier. Given the "vintage", copper oxide has to be considered too.

Looks more like tehephone repeater. It is not stereo, it is bi-directional.
