Relativistic Space-Time event in the offing, folks. Concerns the Lunar Eclipse. This one comes with an "Easter Egg" as programmers say...
Exact Time and Location will depend on the observers and their velocity. Tuesday Nov 8 2022 for most of us.
https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/lunar/2022-november-8
Alas "Our Man in Portsmouth" is going to miss it.
https://hk.space.museum/en_US/web/s...events/lunar-eclipse/total-lunar-eclipse.html
"Our Man in Hong Kong" is watching out for an Eclipse within an Eclipse! Most unusual! No idea what the Astrologers will make of it.
"Our Man in Canada" ( Exact location undisclosed) seems well placed to report on it too.
😀

Did Richard Feynman not even say about the sun:
- highly ordered rice grain structure: no place in thermonuclear model of the sun?

A double whammy no less, as the Earth occults the Moon and the Moon occults Uranus!
Due to parallax, lunar occultations of planets are only ever visible from a small fraction of the Earth's surface. The November 8th occultation of Uranus will only be visible from the northern Pacific - Russia, China, Japan and Alaska.
"Our Man in Canada" will miss out! 🙁
P.S. A lunar occultation of Uranus is not to be confused with mooning!

I have already planned watching it on YouTube from Hong Kong.
Am unable to embed the videostream, due to Chinese export restrictions, no doubt. Oh wait. It works!
I merely have to calculate the time zone conversion to UTC, as used in the UK. But a decent brunch time, I suspect.
Usually 2.30 if it's like the Chinese Dentist... 😀
I am hoping my knowledge of the 4 winds in the Mahjong set will help me past the language barrier.
Interesting read for cumbb. We like references next to statements. Otherwise it might be CRANK Science.

Most excellent book which Portsmouth Library possess, unless a student has pinched it as usual.
Bit deeper than most of his short books. A complex man.

"Our equations for the sun, for example, as a ball of hydrogen gas, describe a sun without sunspots, without the rice-grain structure of the surface, without prominences, without coronas. Yet, all of these are really in the equations; we just haven't found the way to get them out."

A scientist who cannot distinguish between question and statement, who does not know the most important critical, i.e. scientific, statements of his "greats"?
system7 considers serious reply:
I could make serious criticisms of Dick Feynman. I don't think he told us the whole story of his childhood. He led me astray with his arrogant 3 volume lectures on Physics:
https://www.feynmanlectures.caltech.edu/II_19.html
But his humourous "Principle of Least Action" Lecture wreaks of insight!
A principle I still apply to loudspeaker Engineering.
My personal opinion is Richard was high on the Autistic Scale, severely damaged, a lousy teacher, and socially inept. But covered it up very well. And a very great Scientist. QED is the most accurate theory we have.

Among the minimum principles that I could mention, I noticed that most of them sprang in one way or another from the least action principle of mechanics and electrodynamics. But there is also a class that does not. As an example, if currents are made to go through a piece of material obeying Ohm’s law, the currents distribute themselves inside the piece so that the rate at which heat is generated is as little as possible.

As metal heat up, resistance increases so it seems logical that this would also work inside one piece of metal i.e. it will heat up every part equally as if one part would get a little hotter, resistance increases in this region and thus, current takes an easier path elsewhere and hence, en even distribution as time pass.

Since the advent of Mr. Einstein's Quantum Mechanics threw us out of the Newton or Kepler World of Classical Mechanics, and into a Quantum World of great uncertainty, I have been refining my own Theories:
Naturally I prefer Mathematics. And Astronomy, being that which I can observe:
Anywhoo, here's my findings on Science:
There's two sorts of people. Those who understand Science. And those who don't.
Here quoted almost verbatim from My Good Friend Leonardo Susskind and his co-writer Art Friedman, in their excellent Physics book "Special Relativity and Classical Field Theory- The Theoretical Minimum":
Lecture 3
Relativistic Laws of Motion
Lenny was sitting on a bar stool holding his head in his hands whilst his cell phone was opened to an email message.
Art: Whatsa matter, Lenny? Too much Beer milkshake?
Lenny: Here Art, take a look at this email. I get a couple like this every day.
Email Message 22 January 2007:
Hope that makes sense.

Dear Professor Susskino, Einstein made a bad mistake and I discovered it. I wrote to your friend Hawkins and he didn't answer. Let me explain Einstein's mistake. Force equals mass times acceleration. So I push something with a constant force for a long time the acceleration is constant so if I did it long enough the velocity keeps increasing. I calculated that if push a 220 Pound weight (That's my weight I already probably should go on a diet!) person with a continuous force of 221.809 Pounds in a horizontal direction, after a year he will be moving faster than the speed of light. All I used was Newton's F=MA.. So Einstein was WRONG since he said that nothing could move faster than light. I am hoping you can publish this as I am certain that the physicist's need to know it. I have lot of money and I can pay you.
Hope that makes sense.

It just goes to show:
A little Learning is a dang’rous Thing;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian Spring:
There shallow Draughts intoxicate the Brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again.
Alexander Pope (1709)
("The Pierian Spring" refers to a mythical spring near Mount Olympus, the waters of which were reputed to inspire Orpheus, the poet and musician in ancient Greek mythology.)
;-)
When Feynman says: "Our equations for the sun, for example, as a ball of hydrogen gas, describe a sun without sunspots, without the rice-grain structure of the surface, without prominences, without coronas. Yet, all of these are really in the equations; we just haven't found the way to get them out."
I do translate, for our scientists: Our theories **** on observation! They disregard basic scientific standards! Your "theories" are not even theses, they are nonsense, children's ideas.
