I think that if inflation happened in a container of air, there would indeed had been a bang... a big one ;-D

Some of them are very subtle. It can be a subtle bang. You never know.
but..not all 😎
...given how little we (humanity) actually know... 😌
We have done well to come up with the Big Bang Theory which explains the the origin of matter, the large scale structure of the universe, universal expansion and the existence of the Cosmic Microwave Background.
What we know little about is what governed the universe immediately after the Big Bang. This is the area which is rife for speculation.

I'm not sure inflation is a fact. I mean verified scientifically. We see some "glow"... but thats about it... no?
Prior? - whooohhaaahahahh!..... 🙂

But, BUT!
You presuppose that time existed before the Big Bang. What if time did NOT exist then?
After all, space-time is intercorrelated in our "universe". Perhaps there are other "verses" that have entirely different ideas and manifestations of "time".
Maybe be there are other "universes" for which:
"What time is it? What time is it?"
"There is NO time in space"
Is a true fact.
With that in mind, you can not posit the question about "before the Big Bang"... because by definition, our space-time did not exist then.
What if time did NOT exist then?
The laws of physics could not have existed then, so speculate as ye may!

Shoot... all those late night study sessions of my youth... wasted.
I could have taken Political "Science"... an easy A++ while I got drunk and laid all the time... could have became a big shot lawyer.....
But no.... I had to work on those Hermitian matrices and the curl of some crazy field. Only to find out that none of that likely meant anything before the Big Bang.
P.S. tonyEE and TNT, I've changed prior to the Big Bang to immediately after the Big Bang - 10^-43 to 10^-11 seconds after!
Those earliest times of the universe are the ones subject to speculation involving the Singularity Epoch, the Inflation Epoch, and the Cooling Epoch.

There's no doubt that Webb will see deeper back in time to the Big Bang than any previous instrument.
On Friday, NASA said the first full colour scientific images from Webb will include unprecedented views of distant galaxies, bright nebulae, and a faraway giant gas planet.
To be precise: Stephen's Quintet galaxy, the Carina and Southern Ring nebulae and gas giant planet WASP-96 b.
Also to be expected is an image of extremely faint and distant galaxies obtained through the gravitational lensing of foreground galaxy clusters.

Are you saying that according to Hoyle, Hawking was wrong?
Hawking did not propose the Big Bang theory, if that is what you think.
The first to put forward a proper theory of that ilk was Georges Lemaître.

Perhaps, traderbam, you should read the link I gave earlier: https://www.thoughtco.com/steady-state-theory-2699310
