I'm much more of a fan of Star Trek (there's more "actual science" in ST), but I'm quite thankful for the success of the original Star Wars movie, else the original Star Trek movie and later movies and series might not have been made.

I never watched the subsequent Star Trek next gen productions, they try too hard. The originals left more to the imagination, just more fun. Watching Star Wars was all about the effects, the story line was an incidental requisite, could have been anything.
