In 1999, researchers at Harvard were able to slow light to 17 metres per second, passing it through supercooled (and supercool) sodium crystals.
They were able to stop it, even.
But I've never come across what happens next.
Does the wave/particle photon cease to exist when stopped?
Can it even be observed, given the uncertainty principle?
If observed, is that merely because the observer wishes to observe it?
And when, insofar as when can exist for a stopped photon, it's released from stasis, does it instantly return to its natural velocity, or is there a period of acceleration?
Anyone?
Also came across this today, I think it's worth repeating-

I saw that 1 year before 1999 in a discothec club at Ibiza ! They call that Stromboscope ! :Popworm: (worm is dead & alive in the same time !)
the observer change the result of the experience and the uncertainty principle ! It's dark & light at the same time, and the more you take alcohol & substances, the more the results are changing ! :joker::joker::joker::soapbox::rofl:

Do you have a link?🙂

I think the uncertainty problem is probably that there are no particles just waves..the particle is an illusion..
If there is a wave stretching out to infinity and you pick a point and say here is a particle is it stationary or when released it is again part of the wave

If observed, is that merely because the observer wishes to observe it?
Yes its an illusion..a bit like magnetic fluid when you put a magnet by it..the magnet of focus creates a change seen as a particle..

And when, insofar as when can exist for a stopped photon, it's released from stasis, does it instantly return to its natural velocity, or is there a period of acceleration?

Its a bit like the power of now..🙂
There is only now..you can never do anything in the past or future only in the now..the now effects the past in that it is the actions now that become the past..the now effects the future by the direction chosen in the now..This is assuming that the past present and future don't already exist..You would have to ask the question (when the big bang happened could anything that happens have happened any other way) or is it free will..a bit like if the big bang was an experiment would the outcome be different each time the big bang happened..LMAO assuming the big bang isn't an illusion.

These are only my thoughts..😀

Just a feeling/thought..

Is life a wave or an individual particle..
are we all part of the wave (power/energy) that creates life?

It would be a bit ironic if when people kill people, all the people are part of the one..it would be even more ironic if all life was one..

Just another laugh..

How do we know the universe isn't collapsing in on itself?

Ok the distance between galaxies is increasing and we have red shift..however if the universe was collapsing back to its origin wouldn't the distance between galaxies also increase?😕 (Thinking pull instead of push)

Its obviously wrong because it would have been discovered..😀

I remember a song once that said if we walked backwards togeather at least we would know where we are going...a way to know the future because its the past in reverse..😀 Boy oh boy would I change some things..no reason for trepidation you have been there and done that!

I liked this one in Interstellar movie about galaxies😀 :"in 3d space a circle is a sphere" : what does happen when you swim from a point A with suffisant time : you return to A point after having the feeling to goes away !

And does the universe is an internal spheroid... Bareman, an other whisky please ! what could be in the external side :an other dimension ! give me two glass !

We found too primal (=oldest) super galaxies (many galaxies in one : 100 x bigger than our !)

about light:😕
Is it possible to have waves without particles ? Or does the wave is just the fact we don't understand the physical interaction model with particles yet ?

Forces interactions without charges (so particles) could be possible ?

Would like to create mini black hole in the corners of the living room for bass trap !

There are several Google hits from
Slow light Jupiter scientific.

And happy Easter , which was originally a Sumerian goddess named Ishtar, in Aramaic, Akkadian, and Hebrew- Esther , the first reference to a divine being who was resurrected.
The Romans liked to quilt little patches of religion together from around their empire to unify it (12 vestal virgins were also Sumerian in origin, the heurodyles attending the gods/goddesses in temple).
So her name became Ëostre, out west in proto England , this eventually morphed into Easter .
Ishtar kept herself pretty well sexed, this may be where the rabbits come in...🙈

I like this very much, very Zen. 🙂

In many ways the perception of this truth as an experience as opposed to just an intellectual understanding of it, is one of the principal results of meditation. Infants experience this permanent now state as they're yet to develop the cognitive apparatus ( their brains aren't fully developed yet ) in order to conceptualize time. Whether you believe in any mystical significance of this state of being, it has been confirmed by neuroscience that meditation fosters this perception of reality along with various other benefits to ones emotional health.

Dunno, but if you can define something, even if it is defined as "nothing" doesn't that mean that it exists....?

😕

Quick recap..

The problem is,

That everything we understand is made of energy..does time need energy?
Its like asking where did the big bang happen..and the problem with infinity..The onion idea is interesting (Going from the centre) beyond each layer is another layer, so what is beyond the last layer?

As far as we know anything that exists must have movement of time. ie if time is frozen how can the big bang happen, time would need to start..however if time started with the big bang how did the big bang happen..if there was nothing where did the energy come from? if there were no dimensions..the four we know are H-W-D-Time..

One of the problems with infinity..you can have different infinities..an infinity of sheep is not an infinity of cows. If the universe started at a point and expanded nothing that started at a point can expand into infinity there is always a leading edge..

If infinity is infinite if you put something into it does it expand or is it not possible to add something because its all there is..so why is the universe expanding? (Dark matter is being created)

In string theory is one idea..(there is much more in the thread) M theory is another..you only have to ask what a magnetic field is to get some idea that things are not quite as they seem..

We'll never understand it and those who claim to understand it will never be able to explain it in a way that makes sense

🙂

But it's fun to talk about when sitting around an open fire.

😉

Well you can get a working idea..its not impossible to understand the ideas..However you do need to get a feel for it..and people say the maths is so difficult..you can read around it..its a good way to start.
A word of warning<<it will have an effect on you..and sometimes you have to stop and let it soak in for a while..

Watch the clips and links in the thread..🙂
