Most lcd projection panels are 640 x 480, and that is obviously smaller than the actual DVD output I'm sure. Would a 800 x 600 panel be big enough to take advantage of a DVD's resolution or would I have to go with a 1024 x 768?
NTSC DVD = 720x480
You'll only get the full resolution if you use VGA input, otherwise S-Video can be upscaled to the resolution of your LCD with a line doubler.
Search the forums a bit, you'll find all the information you need 😉

However, the more physical pixels in your screen, the less pixelated the over all image will look.
NTSC DVD = 720x480 (or 352x480 or 352x240)
PAL DVD = 720x576 (or 352x576 or 352x288)
NTSC anamorphic widescreen and black bars on a 4:3 monitor - 720x640
PAL anamorphic widescreen and black bars on a 4:3 monitor - 720x768
Thus, to view the last one properly, on a 4:3 screen, you will need an XGA monitor...
HTPC is the best for all these formats, svideo isint that great...
Cheers,
Alex

Oh thanks guys 🙂, been wondering about that for a while, so 800x 600 would be more than enough to take advantage of just normal dvd's? How much of a diffrence in picture quailty would there be between running a dvd player through s-video to a 800x600 or a 1024x768 panel?
Oh, and also is running dvd's through a computer hooked up to a panel better than running them through a real dvd player to a panel?

Ever had the fun experience of getting sand in your eyes vs not? It looks ugly man, I just had to convince my church to go back to DVI input on the projectors so the elederly didn't think they were going blind lol.
