Older stuff is made to last but please be careful with uncoated aluminium cookware. Aluminiumoxide is known to have effect on or induce dementia/Alzheimer disease.
For this reason coffee makers made by European brands had to have brass inside. It is nice that cookware survives its user but preferably within limits 🙂

Mother gave me a set of aluminum magnalite cookware when I graduated from college. 51 years? I do not like frying on aluminum much, but I heat water in the big pot daily for washing. Frying. those plastic coated wonders that are making such scare stories in the press are wonderful. Polybiphenyls or something?

I still have, and occasionally use, my mother’s Hamilton Beach electric mixer, including the two original white glass bowls, owner’s manual, and juicer attachment. I would estimate it is no newer than 1950s era, possibly even the 40s. Other than a bit of lubrication and replacing the line cord, it’s all original and still works great. The noise of its grinding metal gears, and whiff of ozone brings back childhood memories when my mother would make a birthday cake. I get a kick out of the owner’s manual, with the drawing of the happy housewife in dress, high heels, and pearls. I also enjoy watching old movies, and so often when there’s a kitchen scene – there’s my mixer on the counter!
What a coincidence. A few weeks ago I did a revision of a to me unknown brand 1963 Hamilton Beach milkshake machines electric motor. Exceptional quality! Point was hardened insulation of the wiring to the point of being unsafe. Also ball bearings and carbon brushes were replaced.
Cast aluminium with thick chrome plating, sturdy rubber feet. Nice stuff just to look at.

Hamilton Beach was (and still is) a very old and popular brand of kitchen appliances in the US. Here's a photo I found of my mixer, but mine's in much better condition.
This one is also still going strong for decades and it is also still being produced practically unchanged. Here everyone knows it. Many use one given by mum long ago, many don’t know its name let alone the brands name but it just works day after day, year after year.
This is a new one bought out of curiosity as I suspect it will finally be discontinued. Today it costs 6…8 Euro, todays brand name is Victorinox and the type is Rex. The replacement is of course made of environmentally blah blah plastic as long lasting stuff is apparently not green. Pardon, does not make enough green.
