Everywhere I look it seems that an fxl bulb is the standard and has a life of 50 hours at an average cost of $10 a pop, are there any other bulbs which last longer, which may be more expensive than this but will save you money in the long run and which over head projectors use them, thanks again
Hmm id recomend to retrofit the projector with a hqi metal halide setup, they normally last for 10k hrs +, i just bought one the otherday for 78euros complete, the bulb with that kit lasts for 20k hrs. metal halide is also one hell of alot brighter then halogen with much better colour temperatures.

Thats unreal, its just what i'm looking for, where can I find more information on it. Is it a diy add on to ur overhead projector?
"hqi metal halide setup" ? and what does retrofit mean
Can these kits be added to your ohp and what does the kit consist of, there was very little info in those links

Retrofitting is essentailly "modding" your bulb setup to fit into a unit which isnt set up to be used with the particular lighting you are using. For example- putting an HQI setup in a halogen OHP. Also, with proper mods here and there you should have the HQI setup running in your overhead projector in no time. 🙂
I dont believe those are complete setups. It is probably best to use a double ended kit of some sort off of diylabs.org - as a normal 400 watt bulb (most likely) won't fit in your OHP.

How about the Eiko FXL-5 Projection Lamp | 82 Volt 410 Watt, will this would with a Dukane 4003? It says it lasts for 100 hours instead of 50, is there any difference with brightness between this and the regular FXL?

we are nearly there, making slow progress.
If there is anybody who can list exactly and clearly what parts you need to upgrade any overhead projector(mine being a dukane 4003) using a metal halide kit please do.

A metal halide kit consists of a ballast, a fixture, and a bulb. Generally it also requires special wiring to plug it into the wall. All im saying is- is that these bulbs are much much larger than they seem- they are maybe (about) a foot wide or so. Go with a smaller 150 watt bulb or check out the double ended kits on http://www.diylabs.org
