What is the best deadening material in TT base

I have a hollow plastic TT base that seems to pick up and transmit noise.
What can be used inside the base, to minimize feedback. I was thinking about building a 3/4" wood box snugly around the outside of the thin plastic body of the turntable. Any ideas would be great.

I have heard that Dynamat melts over time, it sure looks like the right stuff. I am also replacing the Masonite plate with wood. Thank you for all of your ideas. The TT is a Sony PS-LX5 and other than the fact that I can't get a spare headshell for less than $80 it works very nicely for me.

The Sony does everything well, but it picks all vibration like a tin can. I am almost willing to build a solid wood perimeter clamping frame if anyone thinks it will stop the transfer of sound back into the base. I am afraid of clay melting in the heat.
