What is ideal for this driver?

I just got given a set of 5" full range drivers from radio shack minimus 4's. From what i can find these are really good drivers. What style box would work best for these? I was looking at something like the Metronome or a backloaded horn of some sort. Here the specs as best as i can tell from the internet.

What style cabinet would work best for these drivers?

Given the high Fs and Qts, I wouldn't expect any series bass extension from these. I'd consider using them in a FAST system (where you use a wide-band driver and a midbass, cross over around 300Hz), as taking bass duties away will lower distortion, giving a cleaner midrange and treble.

To design a proper box, you'd need a VAS measurement at least. Guessing is an option, but you might not be happy with the results. If you want any significant bass, I'd ponder a BIB. Another option would be to build a box that is 1-2 cu ft, and then play with stuffing. If it is too boomy, vent the back and make it aperiodic. There will surely be QWT options, but you'll need a good set of measurements to get in the ball park, and you may well still wish for woofers.

You could do something like the Bottlehead S.E.X.y speaker, with a sealed/aperiodic. (Each FR set on top of an inexpensive subwoofer). My take would be to go open baffle. Given the size of the driver, you'd probably want to crossover fairly high. But, it depends on your maximum SPL requirements. I favor biamping with a passive crossover on top and active on the bottom. (See my forum for an example of what I did). Again, you'd be looking at crossing over higher, but you could do something very similar.

'Ideal'? 'Best'?

With a high output impedance, tuning to Fs is one requirement, so with such a high effective Qts [Re + Rs], a [huge] horn, aperiodic, or OB are the choices and since each amp will probably have a different impedance [as in DF, not tap, rating] will require different cab designs. That, or build whichever combination yields the largest cab net volume [Vb] and add however much series resistance is required to the others to ~ tonally balance them out.
