may it be a stupid question.
im going to build a new clock for a cdp with separate psu. but its a limited supply of crystaloscillators where i live it seems.
im supposed to have 16,9344 Mhz, well atleast thats the original crystal im going to exchange.
the closest they stock at the place i order from is 16,384 MHz
will it work? what happens when you change this value?
the psu in schematics is based on a 7812 and an AD797 op. any opinions?
or will a regular psu with a 7805 work?

It will work and the music will be slower 3.24%
Are you joking 7805 is for 5V supply 7812 for 12V.

aha! so thats how it works. so if i put in a 8mhz it will go half speed?.
3,24% sounds to much. gotta find the right one.
well the regulators i was mentioning is for driving the XO witch im going to use instead. as i understand they need 5VDC.

I'm under the impression that it will not work at all; the CD drive will not be able to read slower. Correct me if I'm wrong.
3.24% is actually livable... NTSC Film -> PAL conversion results in 4.27% faster picture and sound.
Choose whichever voltage your device needs. If it needs 12V, give it 12V. Same goes for 5V.

Choose whichever voltage your device needs. If it needs 12V, give it 12V. Same goes for 5V.

Elektor made a pcb in the early days of cd (1988). It had a var clock, so you could change the speed of the reading of the cd. Compared it to the speed adjustment of a record player.
Speed variation was -20% to +15% without problems. -50% also worked for playing, but skip and search did no longer.
It was designed for the early philips players, first and second chipset.

That's pretty cool. So the pitch of the singer will also change with the sampling rate?
Does it work with SPDIF out to a DAC with reclocking?
Guess so. Analog to a record player where you set the wrong speed.
As for spdif. It is not mentioned in the article if it still works or not. But if it does work, i'm wondering about the spdif receiver at the dac.
