Hi Guys, I would like to build a set of speakers for my Croft Epoch Elite / Elite Apparition. At the moment I am using Loth X Amaze which are nice but give a coloured lightweight sound.I want something that can produce Bass!!
I could always use the full range Loth X Drivers in another cabinet.I am wondering what you guys with much more experience than me would recomend as a course of action !! 🙄 Thanks

Croft as in flea power OTL? I think you may have a power amplifier that is incompatible with your desires. I would try a different power amp on the speakers first just to see if the colouration and lack of bass is actually due to the speakers or not.
Ha ha Thats the one 12 watts !! I know Glenn uses the Loths for testing purposes but not for listening !
I guess Im looking for high sens 90db ish and 16 ohm load, I have tried the speakers with other amps and the situ mostly remains the same.
Moving into a new listening room which is larger hence the request.

Tricky. There are a lot of high sensitivity speakers that are a gentle load, but if you like the loths other than the bottom octaves a powered subwoofer could look at attractive option. the Croft would probably love horns but you didn't see how much bigger your new room was.
16 ohm is an issue, it severly limits your choices.
Ignoring that i would suggest Alpait 10p in Frugel-Horn XL, or if that is too big, the suitable Pensil (or if too small, Silbury)

If it has to be 16ohms, that severely limits available options. Basically, you'd be looking at Lowthers, some AER models, PHYs etc. Depends how much you want to spend to be honest, the voicing you're after etc.
If the Croft is capable of reasonable performance with lower impedance speakers, then you will have far more options, as a nominal 8ohm is typical, especially for larger units -say 6 1/2in or more. Plenty of those to go at, so as above, depends on price, intended voicing, permissible size, cabinet type etc. I could make recommendations of different options until the cows come home, but really, we need to have this first, then we have a decent basis from which to proceed.

A quick google suggests 96dB and 8 Ohms for the Loth-X. They appear to be a very marmite speaker. I'm stuck as to what to advise other than borrowing a sub from someone to see what rolling off at 150Hz does to the presentation.
Thank You for your input guys ! I said 16 ohm as that is what is recomended in the croft manuals 8 ohm being the minimum for realistic volume. But of course a full range will be quite easy to drive compared to a complicated x over.
I will check the dimensions of the new room and post it up tomorrow.
I quite like the look of the FH XL and also the Pensil.I believe the FH XL are reasonably corner friendly !! I know the larger version of my Loth X the Polaris use the same driver in a bigger cab, could I use my Loth drivers in any of these designs??
Excuse my Newbie questions.!! Thanks.

The Loth has a fostex driver, but I doubt that there will be any parameters for it other than descriptions of the polaris, which is a back loaded horn. You might be lucky copying something for a similar fostex or lowther, but that is a very bit 'might'.
As far as I am aware, Loth-X produced their own drivers, loosely based upon Lowthers. Possibly had somebody make them on their behalf, but if so, I very much doubt it was Fostex.
You can't use it in one of the pensils, but it might (might) go into FHXL; we're rather in the realms of guesswork without any data on the driver itself.

here is a few pictures here,( 6moons audio reviews: Song Audio SA-34 SB Cecilia & Loth-X Ion Amaze) I thought the speakers were made in house with a special snake oil coating. Im sure given the retail price I can do so much better !! I have always wanted to build a big Horn style speaker !!
I vaguely recollect that they had un-Lowtherlike specs which were more like the Moth drivers, that is to say Qts more around .7 ish range. It's been some time since there's been any discussion of these. If I had to guess I'd say they were custom made by one of the Taiwanese manufacturers.
Regardless, the first step to making a new cabinet is to take T/S measurements.

The new room size is 6.42 mtres x 5.19 with a ceiling height of 2.30Im thinking I would be better off getting rid of the Loths and use the money to buy some decent drivers. Am I right in saying the FruXL are corner friendly??
My favourite music is Tom Waits, Neil Young,Gillian Welch, Steely Dan , Donald Fagen, some Blues and decent Country, Nanci Griffiths ect. I Like a big soundstage and accurate sounding Acoustic guitars ect.Voices for Chicken Skin !!!Etc.Emotionally Moving Music replay !! Not asking much Eh !!

Yes, It is officially a corner horn. In the corner the bottom end should get smoother and go lower, more damping in the front under je driver may be needed to pull back bass quantity.

Nothing for you to worry about. I simply designed the enclosure to have a slight excess of gain over the nominal under average conditions as it's easier for people to damp out an excess than it is for them to increase what doesn't exist in the first place.
