Spec's of the server are
Supermicro.com server
P4 2.6gig 800fsb
512mb ram
dual sata hot swappable hard drives 80gig 7200pm.
dual intel gigabyte network card's ..
Still working on some small bug's i need to figure out first how to get samba working properly so i can use my laptop to get to the server when im at home to carry the back up files off the server and also be able to update the html folder with new index.php files and stuff so im still in the learning stage but so far it is all up and working Smoothly and nicely.

i also fix computer on the side. some mac some pc : O) and yes the room is warm but yeah.. : O) i need a rack and a new 1.5kva ups. : O)

ebay is a good place.. but i can get stuff at cost from work : O) and i dont want something that could or could not work. brand new is the way to go when im building a server that needs to be up 24/7

what os are you running on them ? what kinda firewall do you use a pc based linux box or a dedicated piece of hard ware.. does any one here know unix that can help me with my question...
i use a linux firwall u can make one from a old p200 with 2

i like this software better.. It tells you the ip's of people hacking in teslls you all your network stat's it is manageable and is just nicer than a bsd box.. with a bsd box you have to know how to set it up and or ssh / log in to manage or set it up..

true, building a freebsd firewall is not for the faint of heart. mnf is a great solution to hack a firewall together. quick and dirty.

bsd is the best.. but in my case i hate ssh. i like the gui to configure everything.. : O) have you ever tried suse. ?

In OS X (a version of FreeBSD) a firewall is just clicking a software switch.
