Empirical knowledge and experience many times trump theoretical simulations and school books.
Due to practical circumstances like bracing inside the cabinet, a wish to avoid port ends being close to the driver cone etc, for the centre speaker it ended up as 3 ports Ø 72 mm / 2,83" and 247 mm / 9,7" long. Some donut shaped flanges were added to the tubes inside the cabinet. Tuning should land around 35 Hz or so. If wanted, 1 port could be closed off for a lower tuning. Time to start with the L+R which are about 163 L each net prior to stuffing and ports.
As speakers for TV auditioning 99% of the time only, these relics will likely not be fed more than 1 w / 98 dB, so air velocity in ports is a not an essential point really. It looks a bit funny with speakers larger than the 50" TV. Some would say I have a good and understanding wife.
