Hi everyone,
I got an Aldis 303 slide projector of a mate; it all works well... so I was wondering would this be suitable to rip apart for a diy projector. Check the image below and let me know what you guys think:

1. Should I bin the idea and the OPH route?
2. What’s the best option with the bits that I have... keeping in mind I have not bought the LCD yet.

Also I think this is the bulb: http://www.donsbulbs.com/cgi-bin/r/b.pl/ddb~ddw.html

Cheers,
BRF😕

ok....

It's only $33 for a pack of 3 bulbs..... How do you know they only last 25hrs? Quote:" i tried LCD route its not worth it " Is is really that bad? Is nobody getting good results with small lcd's. OK so the bulb will be a problem but what about the optics can they be used for a nice diy box?

Cheers,
BRF.

Small LCD's have a terrible resolution. Really small ones are totally worthless. They're usally in the 384x280 range. Anything that will make analog NTSC or PAL look worse (i.e. less than 640x480) is a total waste of time IMO. Resolution is very noticable on a big screen. Download a quicktime or realplayer or windows media movie. A low res one (384x280 would be a good example), that takes up a small window on your screen when you watch it. Now switch to full-screen mode. See how nasty that looks on a 17" monitor? Imagine how bad it will look on a 70" screen.

The good news

1. You could just drop a lcd in the slide space and in all odds it will work great, my setup yelded about a 600-900 luman picture.

2. put a fan blowing across the back of the lcd and you should be fine for heat.

Okay the bad news.

1. I loved my slide projector setup, but the image is not exactly great, screendoor effect big time!

The bottem line is that unless you can find a good lcd panel-this approch is designed more to wet you appite for projection tv then be a end to that desire.
