Hi everyone!
Let's assume, you've drank a lot, are agitated or not able to sleep, maybe too much caffeeine, it's late at night, what do you do? Pestering the forums with stupid questions, arguing about things of the past, ponder about what driver to use? Please tell me to distract me from my sleepless night..

ICG,
If cannot sleep, then think about how to do a cabinet with constrained layer damping for a new speaker project... 😀

Excellent idea! But I'm quite damped with my last speaker projects! J/K, I'm already thinking about my next projects, one of them is a high spl 5,5" FR driver I'd like to match with a high efficient magnetostat. I'm already thinking about the damping of the FR driver as well of the magnetostat since it doesn't have a back chamber nor even a front plate. It's a very high spl magnetostat and the FR will work above a sub, I probably have to XO it high though.
By high SPL driver, what SPL range are you contemplating?
Since you plan to have a megnetostat taking care of the higher frequencies, and a sub or woofers to do the LF duty, looks like you will need a high SPL wide-band driver (not necessarily so much extended in the upper range as drivers that are typically called full-range).
Have you taken a look at the PA mids from Faital Pro and Beyma? IIRC PRV from Brazil also have high SPL mid-ranges.

Doesn’t sound like you've drank a lot 😉
Ow, I didn't think that was so obvious. 😵 But I had that idea already when I was sober! 😛

The FR is already set, it's a Fane 5,5" FR, the XO is planned at ~3,5k, lower xo is ~120-150Hz. The magnetostat performs well over 3,5k but I could switch to a compression driver and horn.
I've seen the PRV 6" high spl mid drivers, I was tempted to oder them, they are quite cheap and also have very shallow basket. On the impedance response you can see a lot of resonances, I'm sure not all will show on the frequency response but my concern is the decay. I'd prefer the Fane but I'm considering the PRV too, they promise to have a lot more headroom.
We just about doe for another coaxial thread!Hi everyone!
