I finished up Michael Pye's "Edge of the World" -- pretty interesting if you like looking into the reasons that a particular and lasting commerce, banking and social systems developed on the Western edge of Western Europe.
sounds like the evil magician in Tim Power's The Anubis Gates
do too much magic and he is physically rejected by the earth, attracted to the moon - when the ceiling gives way its bye-bye

Joel - Richard certainly has a gift for turning a phrase - an imaginary round table including he, Richard Feynman, Neil degrasse Tyson and Salmon Rushdie - all of whom I'd consider exquisite wordsmiths and "decent thinkers" - now that'd be a fun afternoon / weekend
Forum member Merlin Blencowe's book "Designing High-Fidelity Valve Preamps" just arrived yesterday.
Also picked up Winik's "1944"

I saw this reviewed in "The Spectator" --"The Invention of Science" by David Wooton -- arrived on Amazon yesterday -- we have to blame the Danes for science.
"Lights Out!" Ted Koppel. About the venerability of the electrical grid to terrorism (both cyber and physical). Kind of boring to me. Hoped for more discussion on the nuts and bolts of the grid itself.
"Cream The worlds Greatest Supergroup" It was an okay book. Kind of long, but interesting reading about the member's run up before the group formed and the music scene of those times.
"A Streetcat Names Bob". A recovering heroine addict working on the streets of London finds a cat and it changes his life. This and the follow-up book are very good.

Only fiction book I ever read from cover to cover was "Jaws"
It's about a shark 😀
Only English book my aunt owned at the time, I was really bored that summer
Probably better than the movie, but I never bothered to watch the movie
"Armaments, universal debt, and planned obsolescence--those are the three pillars of Western prosperity. —Aldous Huxley "
They've really taken all three of those to the limit 😀
Oh, reading, currently.
I don't read much , although I read more than most Americans I'm sure
I don't read fiction at all
Reading is actually overrated by in book, lol?
Listening to what smart people have to say is much more efficient in most circumstances and you can more easily discern if the person is lying or not; comes in handy with the "financial stuff", especially

"Call of the Wild" was required in freshman year of high school, along with "The Red Badge of Courage". Read "White Fang"the same year, surprising in that it wasn't required!
