Researchers at King's College London told how red wine can affect the intestines. Experts drew their conclusions from the study, which was attended by almost 3 thousand people from the UK, USA and the Netherlands.
Volunteers drank a variety of spirits, including red and white wine, cider and beer. As it turned out, those who drank red wine had a more diverse intestinal microbiota. Other drinks did not show such an effect. In addition, drinking red wine was associated with lower levels of “bad” cholesterol and obesity.
The researchers suggested that this effect is due to the high content of polyphenols - they have antioxidant properties and serve as a "fuel" for microorganisms.
By the way, Russian submariners get 100 grams of red wine per day. Residents have always suggested that this is for better blood formation. But actually for the normal functioning of the digestive tract.

Cal - on any of your trips over here have ya ever tried out any of the pretty extensive list of brews at Spinnakers? Sue & I stopped in for a lite brunch snack there today, and while it was a bit too early on what turned out to be another fairly warm day for me to partake - just had water with our salads and flatbread - there were some pretty interesting seasonal brews.

All over the landscape now. Right cozy some of them are. Nice, that being small, the owner's are very often more than pleased to take you into the backrooms for a gander at the equipment. Being a home brewer and then U-brew'er for many years, it's nice to see the big boys with the big toys.
There used to be a restaurant here in Seattle called Spinnakers, was an eighties/nineties thing, and has since gone away. Just walking in there you felt like you had a rugby shirt on with the collar turned up...
I need to visit my favorite local micro brewer more often, classic brewing for the most part.

Like many beers that are exported and well loved in other lands, Stella is considered very ordinary in Belgium.
In some parts its reputation is such that it has the name "WBB" (wife-beater's beer).
It's fairly common for ordinary beers to reinvent themselves internationally as premium beers through marketing.
I think I already wrote here about the time we went to an Australian hangout pub on Australia day that was selling Foster's draft for some low low price. I and a friend who had quite a few got hives from it.

I come from the city where Stella Artois is also brewed. This is not bad for my taste, for light beer. Like Egyptian Stella or Mexican Carona Extra. But in the shops we also have real Belgian Stella Artois products in champagne bottles, corked with a wooden cork, they taste even more delicate. Apparently the water is softer, and the components are better. But, for my taste, the best beer is still brewed in England, for example, the Wychwood brewery https://ic.pics.livejournal.com/wlad_1978/18731344/527168/527168_original.jpg , it tastes like old Soviet beer, which, alas, is almost absent. When we were students, we bought at the brewery directly on the tap, and it was without pasteurization.
