What amp for my subs?

UPDATE: I bought the Behringer EP2500

While it retails for AU $800 I got it for $630 at Factory Sound, who Behringer Australia described as "a big discounter" ie they offer good prices. I found this to be true as another store offered it for $700 and when I tried to push for a better price from a local place, they guy was struggling to offer it for $695!

I did get hold of an Alesis Matica 2nd hand amp to try out, but wasn't totally satisfied. Even with 450w per side it was clipping when I still wanted to crank it some more. Also noisy fans. I sent it back to the guy who was selling it.

Then I had a look at QSC USA 900 with the same power and a quieter fan, which I returned as I thought it was not working, until later I found out I had a cable loose (v embarrasing!) :cannotbe: ... it would have cost me $650 had I not returned it

I like the Behringer more than the others, it has yet to run out of steam or even clip at all.

While I was tempted to get the cheap Biema amp which was going for $450 and had 450w (although I think its more like 400), via trying things out I have concluded:

* not enough power
* headroom is very valuable
* peace of mind is worth something - saves you a lot of worry if you like to crank, you don't have to watch the clipping indicators all the time
* not worth buying an amp that can't be serviced (Biema don't supply sufficient info for anyone to repair them, so once they fail, you have to buy a new one) - lesson: don't buy throw away amps, they are more likely to fail anyway

Now to get rid of the fan noise .........
